Llandovery were in grand running form in securing a 13 tries to two victory over the game but well beaten Championship side.
In the last 15 a side game before opening their Premiership campaign at Aberavon, the pace and tempo set by the Drovers on the immaculate Church Bank surface ripped the Emlyn defence open with 11 of the tries coming from the fleet of foot back division.
Half backs Rhodri Davies and Jack Maynard were responsible for 43 of the home points with Davies running in a hat trick of tries and Maynard grabbing a brace as well as adding nine conversions.
Emlyn – brave and committed up front – tackled themselves to a standstill but the speed of Davies, full back Lee Rees and wings Aaron Warren and Lex Botha left them often clutching at thin air.
The Emlyn pack won some decent possession and in flanker Joel Jones they had a player ready to step up a grade from Championship rugby. He put in some charging runs to keep Llandovery on the alert and even managed a first half try from a close range attack but in general the slickness and quick handling of the home backs created a multitude of chances.
Despite nice touches from Emlyn fly half Nic Setaro and centre Tomi Jones, the Drovers were 28-0 up after a quarter of an hour through the South African Botha, the scintillating Davies, flanker Shaun Miles and lock Joe Powell. By half time Davies had completed his hat trick and Warren had crossed to make it 47-5.
A host of changes on both sides did nothing to stem the flow of points with tries following from Maynard (2), and the twinkle toed Rees, plus replacements centre Rhodri Jones and scrum half Scott Gibson (2). Replacement fly half James Davies chipped in with three conversions.
Emlyn’s never say die attitude was duly rewarded with a try from centre Alun Howells, converted by fly half Mitch Jones.
