Sad passing of Emrys Evans

By Bryan Weaver | 06/03/2017

It is with heavy hearts that we pay our respects to ex Llandovery player Emrys Evans, who passed away due to a car accident near Dolgellau yesterday.

Emrys, a tough and fearless centre, played for the Drovers in the important period from the end of the 1990s to the early part of the 2000s, when many of the foundations of the club’s modern Premiership status were being laid.

As well making as his contribution to the 1st XV squad Emrys will also be fondly remembered as a popular and committed member of the 2nd XV team for many seasons. In the Club’s Annual Awards ceremony he was 2nd XV Player of the Year for 2006-7 and Player Clubman of the Year for the following season. Our two pictures below show these presentations.

Nant Conwy RFC was Emrys’s home club for many of his playing years both before and after he played for the Drovers. Our condolences go to Emrys’s family and to his many friends in the North and South.

Our lead picture shows Emrys scoring against Glamorgan Wanderers in May 2007, the last game he played for Llandovery 1st XV, together with his website profile picture in typically cheerful pose.
