Head Coach Euros Evans introduces the new season

Pre season has started and the players are working hard in preparation for the new season that is fast approaching. With 29 league games and hopefully a good cup run it was essential that we added to our squad to ensure we have the depth of squad required to compete on all fronts. 

It’s always a challenge to get the balance right between experience and development. We take seriously our commitment to develop players for the Scarlets and Wales Under 20s but we believe it’s essential for these players to have experience around them to help them improve as players.

Scarlets academy players Corey Baldwin, Scott Jenkins, Lewis Ellis-Jones and Tomi Lewis will continue their development with us. Joining them will be Wales under 18s prop Llyr Green, a former Coleg Sir Gâr student. Lewis, Llyr and Tomi have all been selected for the Wales u18s squad summer tour to South Africa. Although these players are young we are confident they will quickly become key players in our squad.

The new experienced players come in the form of second row Jack Jones, winger Lee Williams, and hooker Ricky Guest. 

Jack’s a Llandovery college old boy, and he’s been capped at Wales under 16, 18 and 20. He was a member of the Scarlets squad in season 2015-16 before going to play in England last year. 

Lee Williams joins us from Carmarthen Quins. He has represented Wales at under-18 and under-19 levels and made 58 appearances for the Scarlets. He was part of the team that won the IRB World Sevens Championships in Dubai in 2009. 

Ricky joins us from Swansea; Ricky has also represented Wales at under 16 and 18 level and he will join a very competitive pool of hookers.

This season the squad will be led by captain Richard Brooks and Vice–captain Lee Rees. These players will lead from the front both on and off the field, with a clear focus on ensuring we stay at the top end of Welsh club rugby. The coaching team and back room staff remains the same next year. We look forward to seeing you at Church Bank this season and hopefully we will entertain you with some excellent winning rugby.
