Chairman Peter Rees previews Saturday’s home Premiership game v Bridgend
Croeso cynnes iawn i pawb o Clwb Rygbi Penybont yn ol i Banc Yr Eglwys heddi! We welcome Bridgend back to the Church Bank after an absence of almost 2 years as the idiosyncrasies of last season’s fixtures meant that we only played them away from home!
Our last five fixtures against the Ravens have all been relatively high scoring and all wins for the Drovers so I am sure our supporters will be hoping that that we bounce back from an extremely disappointing game in North Wales last weekend. However the overall statistics for our fixtures with Bridgend could not be closer, with 13 successes and 593 points for the Drovers against 14 wins and 594 points for the Ravens, and Bridgend will travel to Llandovery with some confidence on the back of a bonus point win against Aberavon and a narrow defeat against RGC away at Parc Eirias just before the break for the B&I fixtures !
We of course celebrate today Wyn Jones’s success in being included in the Wales squad for the Autumn Internationals, llongyfarchiadau Wyn, well deserved after some outstanding performances for the Scarlets. We also congratulate another local favourite Shaun Miles on reaching 150 games for the Drovers since joining us in the 2010/11 season. Shaun has always been 100% committed on the pitch and a great team member on and off the pitch so it is no wonder that he is popular with all our supporters and has reached this notable landmark. Congratulations are also due to Euros for being invited to join the Scarlets’ coaching team in preparation for their LV Cup fixtures.
We recently held our AGM and I would like to take this opportunity to thank those members for attending, it would have been good to see a few more present as it is an opportunity for everyone to discuss all aspects of the Club and how it is managed. I believe those that did attend felt that despite the challenging economic environment the Club continues to make progress with reinvestment in our facilities.
The Club has a few tickets still available for the Australia fixture next weekend so if you want to support Wyn (surely he will be selected!) on his first home international please have a word with Gina or any of the Board this afternoon!
Our Match Sponsor today is Mark Vince of West End Café, thank you Mark for your support once again.
As we enter the Autumn international season please be aware the kick off times will vary from the normal time and next week our game against Llanelli will commence at 1.00 pm.
Er Gwaethaf Pawb a Phopeth Ni Yma o Hyd! Ymlaen Y Porthmyn!
