Nigel Clarke reports:

Despite conceding an early interception try the young Drovers started their season off well scoring seven tries, two converted with strong running, and powerful forward driving. Scorers for Llandovery were centre JAKE GUERIN, flanker CRAIG DAVIES, No.8 RHODRI JONES, hooker RYAN WILLIAMS, fullback JOE MORGAN, prop KEVIN JONES and outside half GERAINT HUGHES. Centre DAN DAVIES and flanker CRAIG DAVIES added the conversions.

Nigel Clarke reports:

A very young Llandeilo team contributed to an entertaining game constantly stealing Llandovery possession and tackling gamely to the end. Two tries were scored for the Drovers by flanker CRAIG DAVIES, hooker RYAN WILLIAMS, flanker DAN "MEL" DAVIES and one try for fullback JOE MORGAN, prop WYN JONES, second row JOHN MITCHELL and centre JAKE GUERIN. DAN "CHAV" DAVIES added three conversions.

Nigel Clarke reports:

The first league match of the season saw a powerful first half performance with Llandovery leading 26-5. The game lulled in the second half but an excellent try by the visitors’ backs sparked the home side into finishing strongly. Tries for the Drovers were scored by No.8 Rhodri Jones, scrum half ANDREW OWENS, hooker KEVIN JONES, flanker DAN "MEL" DAVIES and captain/prop WYN JONES leading the way with two tries. Centre DAN "CHAV" DAVIES kicked three conversions and fellow centre JAKE GUERIN added one.

Nigel Clarke reports:

Powerful running by forwards and backs alike provided early dominance for the Drovers who raced to a 37-0 halftime lead. The second half continued in the same vein but was curtailed by the referee as rules declare. For the Drovers tries were scored by centre Jake Guerin (2), flanker Craig Davies (2), wing Thomas Copley (2), second row John Mitchell, fullback Joe Morgan, prop Wyn Jones and No.8 Rhodri Jones. Conversions were added by Joe Morgan (2) and Dan Davies (1). Everyone contributed to the performance and can be pleased with the progress for more difficult tests ahead.

Nigel Clarke reports:

Llandovery lost their first game of the season narrowly to a good Ystradgynlais team. Despite finishing strongly the Drovers couldn't score to level matters but will take heart from their efforts. Josh Archer opened the scoring with a penalty but the visitors hit back with a converted try and kicked a penalty to secure victory.

Llandybie

A

26/9/09

 W

 0 - 34

Nigel Clarke reports:

The young Drovers played their best rugby of the season to overcome Llandybie away. With a superb platform from the dominant forwards and strong running from the backs only desperate defence and some unforced errors kept the home line intact in the first quarter. However the pressure exerted told when scrum half ANDREW OWENS forced his way over for the first score converted by JOSH ARCHER. With strong mauling by the forwards hooker RYAN WILLIAMS emerged with the ball for the second try followed closely by prop WYN JONES for the third. HT 17-0.

The game carried on in the same vein in the second half with constant pressure resulting in two more tries from prop WYN JONES, his second hatrick of the season, and one for hardworking flanker CRAIG DAVIES, JOSH ARCHER converting one. RICHARD DAVIES and JOHN MITCHELL took the game to the opposition all afternoon with AARON THOMPSON ruling the lineout. RHODRI JONES controlled matters well at the back of the scrum. At outside half GERAINT HUGHES kept the pressure on with a mixture of running and well placed kicks whilst centres JAKE GUERIN and DAN DAVIES were strong in both defence and attack. The back three of JOSH ARCHER, CRAIG LEWIS and ADAM PRICE were always prepared to counter attack and take on the home defence. Coming off the bench STEVE HILL, TOM REES and GARETH MORGAN all played their part with MORGAN in particular adding his huge bulk to the forward effort. All in all an excellent effort by the entire group.

Brecon

3/10/09

 W

 22 - 26

Nigel Clarke reports:

With a serious road accident causing delays and the cobwebs of an 18th birthday party the night before - Happy Birthday to JOE MORGAN - the first half performance was predictably scrappy and lacklustre. Brecon continually broke tackles and made headway into a strong wind to score three first half tries, all unconverted. In turn the Drovers managed three scores of their own through flanker CRAIG DAVIES, fullback JOSH ARCHER and prop RICHARD DAVIES. Outside half GERAINT HUGHES converted two. HT score 15-19.

The second half saw a much better performance with forwards driving hard at the Brecon defence eventually resulting in a score for flanker JOHN MITCHELL well converted by DAN DAVIES. Llandovery kept the 26-15 scoreline intact until two minutes from time when, after concerted pressure, the home side scored under the posts. With time running out it was Llandovery who finished stronger, just narrowly missing out on a final try, failing to ground the ball under a pile of bodies. Final note must go to the referee. Due to a mix up the original official failed to appear and the Brecon coach stepped into the breach at the last moment - not ideal for him or the players but he contributed to a keenly fought tussle with excellent decisions - certainly the best "official " we have had this season.

Lampeter

H

10/10/09

 W

 55 - 0

Nigel Clarke reports:

The scoreline doesn't do justice to how hard the Drovers had to work for their scores. The contact area was particularly hard fought and makes the victory even better. Fullback JOSH ARCHER opened the scoring with a strong burst into the line for centre DAN DAVIES to convert. He also added a penalty soon after and this was followed with hooker RYAN WILLIAMS cleaning up lineout ball and darting over. With the score at 15-0 the game was evenly contested but when Llandovery made forward pressure tell on the stroke of halftime with prop WYN JONES crashing over and DAN DAVIES adding the conversion the 22-0 scoreline gave the home side a big boost.

Coming out of the blocks for the second half - scores by scrum half ANDREW OWENS, outside half GERAINT HUGHES, flanker CRAIG DAVIES and two more for prop WYN JONES, with centre DAN DAVIES adding four conversions for a personal tally of 15 points - brought proceedings to an end in style. Once again everybody contributed to the team performance and will look to carry on improving for further tests ahead.

Nigel Clarke reports:

The Drovers held a 19-5 halftime lead at Carmarthen thanks to two tries from prop WYN JONES and one for flanker CRAIG DAVIES. Fullback JOSH ARCHER added two conversions. With the loss of the influential JONES and hooker RYAN WILLIAMS the Quins were able to attack with width to take the match although fullback ARCHER narrowly missed a last minute kick to snatch victory.

Nigel Clarke reports:

Brecon were under-strength for the return fixture but that didn't stop the young Drovers turning on an excellent display of handling and support play throughout.

For Llandovery tries were scored by hooker RYAN WILLIAMS and flanker CRAIG DAVIES with two each, and other scores were by No. 8 RHODRI JONES, centres JAKE GUERIN and ADAM PRICE, wing GARETH MORGAN and a superb individual effort from fullback JOE MORGAN.

DAN DAVIES showed his versatility and importance to the team by playing out of position in the forwards but still found time to slot over an early penalty and seven conversions. An all-round fine display of attacking rugby by backs and forwards which everyone can be proud of.

Nigel Clarke reports:

Both sides defied the heavy underfoot conditions to produce a keenly contested game. The Quins started the stronger and nearly scored from early pressure. The Drovers managed to defend their line and work their way out of danger. With the Llandovery pack gaining the upper hand their strong driving play exerted pressure of their own but the Quins defended stoutly. Eventually flanker CRAIG DAVIES was able to find a way through to score with scrum half DAN DAVIES converting.

The second half continued with the home forwards in fine form backed up by solid defence from the backs against the excellent visitors scrum half and centre. A tap penalty move near the Quins line resulted in young prop KEVIN JONES charging for the posts and from the ruck flanker JOHN MITCHELL was on hand to pick up and drive over. The try was again converted by DAN DAVIES.

With the Quins trying everything to break down the home defence a loose kick to fullback JOE MORGAN on his own ten metre line was run back and when the ball was recycled it was moved quickly along the line for second row AARON THOMPSON to deliver a perfect scoring pass to prop WYN JONES who crashed over in the corner. Credit to both sides for their efforts in the difficult conditions and particularly referee MARTIN DAVIES of Ammanford for his handling of the game.

Neville Hughes reports:

This was an excellent win for Llandovery against a very strong Carmarthen side. The opening try came from a charge down by Geraint Hughes which was then converted by Josh Archer. Carmarthen Athletic fought back well and the half time score was 7 each.

The second half saw the Llandovery side grow in strength and confidence to overwhelm the opposition, which resulted in three more tries for Ryan Williams, Josh Archer and Andrew Owens. Two conversions and one penalty were added.

Neville Hughes reports:

Glamorgan Wanderers came to Llandovery with a strong 27 man squad. The game began with both sides playing a fast open game and it was Llandovery who were on the score board first with a try from no.8 Craig Davies.Glamorgan Wanderers fought back and at half time the score was 5 all.

The second half saw Glamorgan Wanderers bring on replacements and slowly take control of the game in the last 15 minutes. Llandovery Youth played with a bare 15 players and showed great heart and determination through out the game. We look forward to the return match at the end of season.

Neville Hughes reports:

With appalling weather conditions a good crowd gathered to watch this cup game.

The first try of the evening was scored by the captain Wyn Jones. The second try came from a penalty attempt by Llandeilo which was caught by Joe Morgan who ran 80 metres and chipped the ball through to Dafydd Jenkins. Dan Davies converted, giving a half time score of 12-0.

The second half Llandovery defence proved to be stronger than Llandeilo’s, as the third try came from Andrew Owens, again converted by Dan Davies. The fourth try came from an interception by captain Wyn Jones, who scored under the post, converted by Dan Davies.

Next game is at home to Brynamman on Saturday 27th March, 2.30 kick off.
