Chairman Peter Rees previews the RGC game

Croeso cynnes iawn i bawb o Glwb Rygbi Gogledd Cymru i Fanc Yr Eglwys heddi! It is with pleasure that we welcome RGC to Church Bank for our first fixture within the new Indigo Premiership league for 2019/20.
However, many games are played preseason it is only when a team takes the field in a full fledged competition fixture that real judgements of squad strength and form can be made, so how do we assess RGC in advance of this fixture? Having played two competitive games, both at home on Parc yr Eiras, they appear to have achieved markedly contrasting outcomes. Initially they obtained a surprise bonus point victory against league champions Merthyr but last week they fell to Cardiff with a 16-point defeat in the Specsaver Cup. Meanwhile the Drovers have only played a single cup fixture against a Championship side at home and despite recording a comfortable 42 – 0 victory with a number of key players absent a neutral observer would surely say that we needed the fixture prior to meeting an obviously competitive outfit with a new coaching team and everything to prove. So both sets of supporters will probably reach Church Bank eagerly looking forward to an unpredictable fixture which, over recent years, has been high scoring and entertaining. Certainly, the home supporters will be hoping that the Drovers quickly move up the table!
Elsewhere in the Premiership there are some other intriguing fixtures to watch out for, including the Quins at Pontypridd, Merthyr entertaining Ebbw Vale whilst Bridgend will clearly be looking for a win after two consecutive defeats.
On more domestic matters I would like to take the opportunity to officially welcome Chris Reeve and his team to the clubhouse and to encourage everyone to pop in for a drink or a meal because the feedback has been extremely positive! If you don’t have time today or are heading off to the Sheep Festival, why not buy a ticket for the forthcoming (27th September) Bryn Fôn concert organised at the Club by the Urdd Eisteddfod 2021 fund raising appeal. A great opportunity to support a great cause and enjoy the hospitality.
Our Match Sponsors today is Ad Clad and our match ball has been sponsored by Tom Pollack and Peter Jones – Thank you!
Er Gwaethaf Pawb a Phopeth Ni Yma o Hyd! Ymlaen Y Porthmyn!
