For the Drovers, the priority is to finish in the top four of the table to ensure they have a home draw in the quarter-final play-offs.
It would be even better if they were to finish in the top two as it would also guarantee a home draw were they to win their quarter-final match.
Llandovery are in third spot at the moment with three away games and one home game left to negotiate.
They face second placed Cardiff at home but must travel to Bridgend, Pontypool and Aberavon knowing that they must win at least two – even three – of these games to make sure of that all important top four place.
The picture will become clearer this week end after Llandovery’s visit to the Brewey Field.
A big danger to the ambitions of Cardiff, Llandovery and Newport are fifth placed Swansea and sixth placed Carmarthen Quins who are respectively just three and six points adrift of the top four.
Both clubs have the difficult task of meeting runaway leaders Ebbw Vale but the crucial game for both of them is this Thursday when the Quins entertain the All Whites under the Carmarthen Park lights.
The winners of this game will entertain hopes of squeezing into the top four.
Llandovery will be heavily challenged by Bridgend who played some brilliant rugby in their latest league game, coming back from a 20-7 half time deficit against Pontypool to win 50-27.
Euros Evans’s men will have to shrug off the massive disappointment of losing the SRC Cup final to a late Newport try and it will be a real test of character against the in-form Ravens.
The game of the week end will be at Eugene Cross Park where the league leaders will be seeking revenge over Newport for their SRC Cup semi final defeat in extra time.
The bad blood between the two clubs resulted in unsavoury scenes on and off the field and Ebbw will love nothing more than to dent Newport ambitions of a top four finish.
If Newport were to fall to defeat and Swansea were to beat the Quins, then the All Whites would leap frog the Black and Ambers into fourth spot in the table with just three games remaining.
