End of Season reports for Junior teams for 2010-11

Under 10s in 2010-11

The under 10s started the year by gaining 2 marvellous new players. Iwan ‘the cannonball’ Dowling Jones and Iestyn ‘the whippet’ Williams have been valuable additions to the squad and are now two of our best players.

We started the season with a gritty loss in Gwernyfed but followed this with a win in Tumble and then stuffed Ammanford at home.

The weather took its toll during the winter months so we took advantage of this break by hitting the gym and raising our fitness levels. This extra fitness paid off as we played our best game of the season to beat Llandeilo by 5 tries to 3. Ifor was on fire, scoring four tries in that game.

In the Tumble tournament we were in a group of 7 teams. All players performed to their best and we notched up wins against Kidwelly, Cefneithin, Tumble and Trimsaran but lost to New Dock Stars and Swansea Vale. We just missed out on a semi final place, but we were happy with our efforts.

We found the Lampeter tournament tough, but managed to beat Aberaeron after losses to Lampeter and Carmarthen Athletic.

Overall we have had a good season. We played 18 games, won 10 and lost 8.

We would like to thank our fabulous coaches Rich, Sion, Daf and Glyn for all of their time and effort they have put in. We hope you continue to coach us next season. Finally, we need to say a big thank you to all parents and friends who have taken us to training and games. Please make the most of Sunday mornings over the summer as its only 3 months until we start all over again!

Under 11s in 2010-11

The season started slowly this year for the u11s, seeing us lose our first three games of the season away at Gwernyfed, Tumble and Llandeilo. Fortunes changed with the first home game of the season against Pont-y-Berem where an excellent second half performance brought our first win. We than went onto beat Tumble at home and blew them away by our exciting brand of rugby.

The last game of 2010 saw us travel to Brecon, who are probably the strongest team we play. Here we were narrowly defeated in a hard fought contest but one which gave us the belief that we could compete with the top sides.

The weather and Christmas meant we had a seven week layoff and by the time the first game of 2011 had arrived we had welcomed Rhodri Davies back from injury. We recorded victories against Llandeilo and Gwernyfed again with good attacking rugby, avenging defeats suffered earlier in the season.

Another visit to Brecon saw us lose 28-26 in a cracking game of rugby with the only difference being a missed conversion. Victory in Lampeter was followed by defeat at home to Builth who scored two late tries to pip us.

From there we into the tournaments. Firstly Tumble, where we started strongly, winning all our pool games but a long period of time with no games on a scorching day put us out of our stride and we were beaten in a tough semi-final against Burryport.

The Brecon tournament saw us in a very tough pool where we lost narrowly to Builth and Merthyr but well beaten by eventual winners Porthcawl, who have not lost in three seasons.

This left us with one opportunity to salvage something from the season, the Lampeter tournament. Again we started on fire, winning all four pool games and getting to the final where we met Carmarthen Athletic. The boys were ready for a tough encounter, having already played Carmarthen Athletic, and knew that they were not going down without a fight. In a very physical game, the boys all did their coaches and parents proud by winning the game by playing fantastic rugby. This meant a lot to us all as it meant we had won the tournament for a third year in a row. Congratulations to Stuart for remembering to take the trophy home this time.

Overall an enjoyable season which has seen us develop and progress as a team who play a good brand of rugby which has resulted in six of us representing our school districts. We have welcomed three new members to our squad in Ryan Giles, Dyffrig ‘The Power’ Poulton and Matthew Jennings .It is with regret that we bid farewell to Owen Waghorn as he moves away, wishing him and his family all the best in their new life in Ipswich. Finally our thanks go to our parents and families for giving up their time to take us to training and matches and supporting us. Also to our coaches Stuart and John for putting up with us. I think it is no coincidence that both are now bald. Also we would like to thank the Club and the people who help out behind the scenes, in particular Shelly and Nicola. Thanks for making our time in mini rugby an enjoyable one.

Under 15s in 2010-11

This season was a bit of a washout with the rain, snow and frost. However, we managed to play 9 games in all, including the final of the Carmarthenshire Cup which we narrowly lost 14-5 to Pontyberem in a tough battle.

The highlight of the season was winning the Kidwelly 7’s tournament, beating Pontardawe A and B, Tumble and Hendy and Furnace in the group stage and eventually beating Porthcawl in the final.

We had a few players representing district this year as follows:
Dafydd Hughes and Alun Thomas – Mynydd Mawr
Dan Greenslade, Joel Williams & Jack Evans – East Carmarthenshire under 14’s
Daniel Jones & Rhun Garner – Ceredigion
Carwyn Davies – Powys

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents, helpers who have helped us throughout the season.
