DROVERS BACK IN ACTION THIS THURSDAY

The Indigo Premiership resumes this week with games spread over Thursday, Friday and Saturday writes Huw S Thomas.

Llandovery – in third spot in the Premiership – are first up on Thursday evening when they travel to take on Llanelli under the Parc Y Scarlets lights (KO 7 30 pm) in a game that is televised on S4C Clic.

Seventh placed Llanelli will be tricky opponents on their own patch, full of confidence after beating Pontypridd at Sardis Road in a 31-29 thriller.

The Drovers were disappointed to come away from the Arms Park with just two losing bonus points after thei r narrow 29-26 loss to Cardiff.

They spent the last five minutes of the game pounding away at the Cardiff line, forcing penalty after penalty but refusing to kick an equalising penalty in search of victory.

Fortune did not favour the brave this time but on their current form Llandovery remain on course for a top four spot and the play offs.

With only a quarter of the season gone, top four predictions are speculative as Newport – one of the pre season favourites to win the Premiership – are currently in ninth spot but last week beat leaders Aberavon 29-20.

The slow starting Black and Ambers could make the last four with a good run, starting on Saturday when they travel west to play struggling Carmarthen Quins at the Park (KO 1 pm)

Llandovery’s loss to Cardiff was their first league defeat of the season and Euros Evans’s men will be determined to pick up their winning ways against their Carmarthenshire rivals in Llanelli on Thursday night.
