Peter Rees reports from last Saturday:
Known as the Drovers, Llandovery RFC obviously has a close affinity with our rural community and as a club we have always benefitted hugely, both on and off the field, from the great support of our farming community. So, all too late in the recent history of the club, we hosted our first Farmers’ Day, Dydd y Ffermwyr, on Saturday coinciding with our home fixture against Pontypridd.
Maybe the sartorial elegance didn’t quite match up with our infamous Ladies Day but the support and the hwyl certainly did!
With our own pedigree Friesian hybrid registered in the herd book as “Drovers Gina the Great” providing a warm welcome as our farmers arrived and following a great meal with an outstanding after-lunch presentation from Carmarthen farmer and raconteur Deryc Rees, over 90 guests had a fantastic day and went on to enjoy a nail-biting victory of old rivals Pontypridd.
Scheduled to come between Christmas and the onset of lambing this will now become a regular fixture in the Drovers calendar as bookings are already coming in for next year!
