Llandovery’s game falls victim to the weather

The Drovers’ Indigo Premiership away fixture against Newport was postponed due to a frozen pitch, writes Tom Hughes. The game was due to have been played at the Newport Stadium rather than the historic Rodney Parade, but an early pitch inspection ruled out any chance of play.

The whole Premiership fixture list was decimated by the weather, the only game played was in north Wales where RGC defeated Llanelli. All teams are building up a back-log of postponed fixtures that will need to be rearranged before the end of the season.

The Welsh Rugby Union will almost certainly have to look at extending the season to complete all the outstanding games.

The Drovers have held on to third place in the Premiership league table with 42 points. Cardiff remain top with 53 points and Aberavon second with 43 points. Llandovery has one game in hand over Aberavon and two games in hand over Cardiff.

The next game for the Drovers is a vital home fixture at Church Bank against Ebbw Vale, on Saturday 28th January, kick-off 2.30 pm. The visitors are in fourth place in the league with 38 points but having played one more game than Llandovery.
